Not-So-Lazy Wednesday

We didn’t have to be anywhere until 12:30 in the afternoon today, so we had a nice, lazy, recoop morning.  We got up at like 9 or 10, but just stayed in bed finishing up homework, eating snacks, talking, and getting ready.  Frau Feest got us real Nutella….so yummy on these rolls.  We left at 12:15 ish for the Minert’s apartment for lunch.  We had soup and lots of different meats and cheeses to figure out which we liked and didn’t like, so that we won’t make mistakes buying food we won’t want to eat.  It was a good idea.  I can’t remember what any of them were called, though. Hahahaha.  Oh well.

From 1:30-3:00 we had a History of Religion in Austria & Germany class held in their apartment, taught by Brother Minert.  It was pretty interesting….kinda.  Mom would love it.  I cannot pay attention to history too well so it is going to be hard, and we heard this was the hardest class last year.  At 3:00 we had “Experiencing Vienna” class taught by Sister Minert.  Because of the rain we had to change our plans, I’m not sure what they were before, but we went to a theme park place!!  We just rode on the ferris wheel.  It was so fun, we all fit in one of the ferris wheel cars.

On the way home, we stopped and got ice cream (Eis)…it was so good!! It was €1.50 for one little scoop…but so worth it.  And Roger paid for all of us.  I got what I think was vanilla with chocolate chips..I can’t remember the real name of it.  This shop is right by our apartment though so we will most likely go again (or LOTS).

Monika and Stephanie came over to hang out for 30 minutes, then we all left together to go to Institute.  This is new for us because since we all attend BYU, nobody goes to Institute because we have religion classes.  We meet in this LDS Outreach Center somewhere.  Our directions were really confusing…it is hard because we don’t know where NORTH is… (no mountains), and there is no way to tell!!  Some guy heard us talking and asked Moni, “are you guys lost?” And she didn’t know what to say- “uhhhh..h..” And I realized, “Do you speak English????” The guy laughed and said yeah I do.  So he searched the address of the center in his iPhone and walked us in the right direction.  He asked us where we were from and when I said “America” he was surprised, “really!!?”…like how surprising is that??  A bunch of girls speaking English who are lost, like where else would we be from.  He was wearing an American flag scarf…hahahaha.

Monika doesn't get may pictures cause she is usually behind the camera

We had a lesson which was really good, a discussion really, led by I think the mission president’s wife maybe.  It was on the talk called “Lord, I Believe” by Jeffrey R. Holland.  We had such a great discussion!  It is amazing how close we are getting with everybody in our group.  We are all so open with each other, and it is cool that we get to share our testimonies so often.  We are all so vulnerable and crazy this first week that we have seen personal, private sides of almost everybody, weather that be dependence, loneliness, a testimony, studying, a need for something…I don’t know how to explain it.  I just feel so close to everybody here.  So we had the lesson, then we were fed dinner for just €1.50.  It was really good.  They had salad dressings labeled “French” and “Italian” like we would have, and there was also a bottle called “AMERICAN” HAHAH.  I had that one of course.  We talked to the sister missionaries, one of them is named Kate Lewis, and she went to Orem High and graduated in 2010.  She knows Heidi and Whitney and Erin.  She was so nice and happy!  I asked her about Brendan Abott and she said she knows him!  And she told me when he would be where so I could go find him hahahha I am going to.  We also met this other girl there from Arizona who is a nanny in Vienna.  She is nannying for eleven months!!  And she has been here for 4 weeks and has no friends, because all the other nannies in her area or something…they all met, but all the others drink and go out partying and so she has nobody to hang out with.  So we are going to bring her on some of our adventures.

We got home a bit after 9…we have been doing homework and going through pictures. I made some hot chocolate.  Frau Feest got us herbal tea and chocolate mix instead of coffee and real tea hahaha so cute.  It has been raining so much!  I love it!!  The weather is perffeeeeccctt.

  1. Great post. That guy's reaction to you being American is the same attitude we kept getting. They would guess we were Dutch or English and were shocked when we said American. I'd love for you to find out why! We also discovered that the dressing labeled American was Ranch or a creamy garlic that was close to Ranch. It was definitely comfort food.

Was it Sister Strong who gave the lesson? She and her husband's mission is to run the outreach center. We loved it there.

Love all the details you include. Sounds wonderful. And your photos are amazing.
