Back in da life

Back to school today!...

This morning we were pretty productive, Caelyn and I.  We got up at 9.  We got all our laundry back and put it away, I ironed some shirts, we cleaned our room, made breakfast (eggs and rolls with nutella...I used to not really like nutella at all but now I love it).  I started filming some of our cute apartment...I am going to make a cute video about it!  Mostly so my dear mother can see what it's like in here cause the FaceTiming does not give the best view!  We got all ready for school, and got all our bags and things organized, and left at 11:25 for class at 12!  We got to the school at 11:50 I think.  So it's a 15-20 minute travel.

First class: ART HISTORY with Professor Kröll.  Just one hour.

We had an hour and a half break for lunch.  For lunch I brought a nectarine (I had bought a box earlier of 7 for 99 cents!), a granola bar, and a roll. Haley and Caelyn wanted to get some packaged sandwiches at BILLA, so us three plus Amy went over there to grab some things.  I ended up getting this "Bananen Frappe"... SO GOOD.  It honestly tastes like a Jamba and it is fresh real juice.  This is what the grocery store looks like:

fresh deli meats...

obviously my favorite section, right up there with the fruit
the grocery store is in the basement of a mall...and you can look down on it

ok ok ok these are the amazing drinks!!! FRESH squeeze orange juice, carrott juice, carrott - orange, kiwi, berry, banana, and one other one? Oh my gosh they are so good. I haven't tried the kiwi one yet.  NEXT.  It's like a smoothie.

banana today.  banana puree, orange juice, sour cream..?, milk, lemon juice, powdered sugar ("dust sugar").  that's what the ingredients say soooo maybe I can make this.
sooooo many Lindor balls.....I wonder how many balls makes 100g...I'm sure I'll find out really soon.
Happy Haley with her pesto sandwich

So for lunches, we can either bring something, or go out and get something.  The Nashmarket is popular to get döners, but I can't eat those every day...they are HUGE, but pretty cheap (like 3.50).  So yeah the grocery store is popular for lunch because they have sandwiches made already for 2-4 Euro, and fruit, snacks, candy, etc. for normal prices.  It is sad realizing that we never really get to cook meals for ourselves at home!  We have breakfast given to us by our Haus Frau....eggs, bread, milk, jam...and then lunches are out, then dinners are never here!  Monday dinner is at FHE, Tuesday dinner is with Frau Feest, Wednesday dinner is at the Institute, Thursdays we will be traveling!!!  Maybe this week on Thursday we will make dinner for ourselves.  I have some good soups I want to make.

Back to class at 2:30 for GERMAN for an hour and a half.  Ahhh this class...I feel like we don't really do anything.  Well no, we learn and pay attention and have conversations in German with our teacher, but we don't have like an organized chapter by chapter curriculum or anything.  And I asked him today how we are going to be tested, and he said one midterm and one final!  No tests in-between!  Sooooo we will see how that goes.

Class ended at 4:00, and we had a meeting with everybody about our trip this weekend.  We have been planning on going to Budapest and Bratislava.  Bratislava is one hour from here, and Budapest is another 3 ish hours from there.  Not too big of a trip, but the planning was insane.  We were trying to find the best prices, at the best times...and it is hard because we want to get the maximum amount of time there, while only having just over two days to travel!  (We get Thursday after 3:30 until Sunday morning at 9am, so we get all of Friday and Saturday pretty much...)  We found trains, and hostels, and looked at the money conversion rates, we looked at things to do (baths!), and more trains and more hostels....everybody was getting so stressed about it and it was insane!  I was enjoying the planning session...reminded me of a typical Lewis Planning Meeting (Dad, Barb, Di and Jeff come to mind here...and even Ben) which was wonderful.  Hahahahahaa OH MAN.  But anyways, we left at 6 to get to FHE by the Rathaus at 6:30.  At FHE we decided to call off the trip....it was too complicated and too short notice, and we are all still sick of traveling from the past two weeks.  So this upcoming weekend will be spent in Vienna!  Hiking hopefully and enjoying the weather in the Vienna Woods.  LOVELY.

So FHE.  We pay 1.50 for a nice dinner prepared by the senior missionaries, Brother and Sister Strong.  They made really good noodle, vegetable, turkey soup, with cheese bread, salad, apples, and tangerines.  I ate a lot of that cheese bread....MMM!!!  I haven't been able to find good cheese that I like!!  The two kinds I have bought have been way too strong I just can't take it.  They said that cheese was gouda (I swear that was one that I had bought) and it was really good and not too strong or gross.  Anyways, we had a lesson, I played the piano, there were like 30 people here tonight!  So crazy.  The girl teaching the lesson was from Sweden, and spoke decent English, but no German.

The weather was actually really nice today!  Es war schön und sonnig.  It was like maybe 55-60?  No wind, which was nice.  Light jacket!

HOME.  So tired today for some reason!!

So total money I spent today was 4.30 I think.  I will start keeping track somewhere, Dad.

  1. Great post, Claire. Had to laugh at the photo of Haley with her sandwich. She told us the two week trip was wonderful in every way, except she never wants to see another sandwich as long as she lives. This sandwich looks more like a salad with bookends, but still, its funny. Guess she got addicted. Thanks for all the news.
