Shönbrunn!

Last night, I had a horrible headache so I just laid on my bed listening to this hour-long rainstorm I have on my iPod..it is awesome.  It went away, and I wasn't tired enough to sleep, so I watched some Grey's Anatomy which made me feel much better.

This morning, I watched more Grey's...it is REALLY GOOD ok.  I filmed and edited some more...!  I am really excited about this little short video.  I made breakfast....I boiled some eggs and had it on these healthy crackers she gave us.  I overcooked them because I was scared of them being soft-boiled like at all the hotels we stayed at (ew).

We had lunch at the Minert's at 12:30 - we had soup and bread.  Jordan says he has had enough soup here for the rest of his life.  We have had it like 2 or 3 times total haha.  I could probably eat soup once a day for the rest of my life and be happy with it.  After we finished eating, we had religion in their apartment.  I fell asleep for a big chunk of it...we were just going over the reading which I did so I got bored...and being full makes me sleepy.  We ended up getting into an interesting discussion that got pretty heated (probably because Monika was the main participant).  We were talking about how Helmuth Hübener broke the law in 1941 opposing Hitler/socialism.  He listened to the BBC stations they weren't supposed to listen to, and he used the church's typewriter to type up anti-government texts, and he distributed them around with two of his friends.  He was only 16.  He got in big troupe, and was executed....he was also excommunicated because he broke the law, and our 12th article of faith says we will honor the law.  So he was excommunicated even though he did what was right...but it was against the law so it was wrong.  It was interesting...the discussion got all the way in gay marriage, murder, abortion, work for the dead, tons of good things.  It is too complicated to even try and summarize here...but we decided he did the right thing.

After religion, we have "Experiencing Vienna" as a class...and we just go somewhere in Vienna.  Today we had the honor of visiting the

Kimber and I were running late getting back from the Schönbrunn palace to our apartment for dinner with Frau Feest.  We underestimated how long it would take to get back home, and we needed to stop at the Minert’s apartment to pick up our backpacks.  The whole travel took forty-five minutes!  We were worried the whole time riding the U-bahn because we didn’t have our train tickets on us because they were in our backpacks back at the Minert’s (the fine for this is 103 Euro).  When we stopped at their apartment, nobody answered the door!!  So we decided to just hurry back to our apartment as fast as we could for dinner, which we were already late for.  Luckily for some reason this afternoon in going out, I put my keys in my pocket instead of my backpack.  This helped us get in much quicker!  I have been craving chicken and that is what she made us!  We also had zucchini soup, pureed with ginger of course.  She always says, "The ginger is good for your immune systems.  It is necessary."  I'm starting to love ginger.  We had steamed (but cold) cauliflower with a yummmy vinaigrette dressing.  She listed the ingredients for us but I only understood balsamic vinegar, oil, and salt. Hahahahah.  Cantaloupe was for dessert!  This woman is healthy!!  I love it.

she sews clothes!  she showed us this cute picture teaching her granddaughter how to stitch
gravy with roasted tomatoes and carrots.  YUM

not in focus sorry...but documentation needed

Kimber and I traveled safely back to the Minert’s to get our backpacks, and we didn’t get ticketed on the subway, and I even got myself a chocolate covered donut (that cantaloupe was yummy but....).  So even though this day was really long, and I am extremely tired and still have a lot to do, there have been little things along the way that were GOOD.  I need to not forget to notice those things.

  1. I LOVE that tablecloth! What a fun mixture of china patterns. All very elegant. (If you ever find out where she got that tablecloth, let me know!)
